My new home is Lavapies – the most culturally diverse neighborhood of Madrid. Strolling up La Calle de Jesus & Maria in the heart of Lavapies, you are greeted by young Morrocan dudes offering you hash, to your right you see North African guys standing out in front of their shops full of cheap sunglasses and NBA jerseys, five steps further Bangladeshi guys are sitting and drinking tea out in front of the numerous Bangladeshi restaurants, which are also full of young hip Madrilenos drinking beers and smoking cigs, finally at the top of the street in the square bums are drinking forty ounce beers out in front of the locutorio (call center – internet cafe). This mix trypifies Lavapies.
I have taken some photos of graffiti and other things that adorn the walls of Lavapies. I have refrained from making any commentary to accompany the photos. I will leave that up to you.
